About the Role

Our nutritional aide is responsible for ensuring the highest quality of culinary services for our students and staff. They assist with meal planning, ensure that students are served hot appropriate portion sizes, and food is delicious and nutritious. This role includes sourcing the ingredients, preparation and serving of a planned menu. You will lead the setup and serving of food from the counter and ensuring all working areas are kept clean and tidy. Your welcoming customer service puts a smile on our students faces and makes an impact in their everyday lives. Other responsibilities include operating and cleaning equipment after each use.

About the Company

B.O.O.K (Building Our Own Kids) Academy is a community service provided through the Maranatha Outreach Center in San Jose, Ca. B.O.O.K provides a positive, safe, and quiet atmosphere for students in grades K—12 to excel in their academic studies. Four levels of services are offered through the program: homework assistance, tutoring, skill-building activities, and access to computers. A mental wellness component is also available.

Responsibilities

  • Create monthly menus and shopping list for all meals. Store and keep updated on the shared drive

  • Prepare food and ensure it is nutritious and properly flavored in accordance with applicable culture, company and county standards

  • Follow proper food handling procedures

  • Maintain accurate rotation of food to assure top quality and freshness

  • Manages leftover foods correctly; cover, label, date, and accurately store according to food safty standards

  • Helps maintain organized storage of dry goods, refrigerated and frozen products

  • Maintains clean and orderly refrigerators and work areas

  • Ensures stations are cleaned, sanitized, and organized at the end of the shift (including cleaning of kitchen equipment)

  • Maintains a safe and sanitary work environment that conforms to all food safety standards and regulations

  • Complies with federal, state and local health and sanitation regulations and department sanitation procedures

  • Follows safety policies and accident reporting procedures

  • Completes all required training


Qualifications

  • Experience with cooking for large groups

  • Experience with putting together flavors kids will eat

  • Extremely organized and excellent time management skills

  • Candidates must be legally able to work in the United States of America

  • On-site work required


Ideal Candidate

  • Familiar with food prep guidelines

  • Understands food safety standards

  • Excellent cooking skills working with school age children

  • Must be able to demonstrate ability to work with people from diverse racial/cultural/socioeconomic backgrounds


Time Commitment:

  • Commit to 2.5 hours a day twice a week for the full academic year

  • Must be able to commit to Tuesdays and Thursdays 4:45pm-7:15pm (Sept-May)

  • On-Site work location required

  • Must be at least 25 years old

  • Complete an online application

  • Submit Health Certificate with Negative TB Test (from a physician)

  • Attend a 1 hour orientation

  • Complete a W9
